----- Forwarded Message ----
From: Richard Kania
Hi Rick,
Latest on Dave: he fractured his sacrum(directly above the tailbone). He will have therapy Sunday and then the decision on when he will come home will be determined based on the pain level he experiences during therapy. He has three abrasions: left elbow, left knee and left outer thigh which is the largest. Those are also beginning to show bruising. His pain is being controlled and he is actually quite comfortable right now. The next two weeks will be the worst and total recovery should be 6 to 8 weeks.
The car that hit him did run the red light. The car hit the front of the bike causing Dave to hit the front corner of the car, then bounce up onto the hood, the windshield and then 'fly' about 10 feet into the air. Dave landed on the pavement after hitting the side mirror on his way down. The car never even slowed down during all of this. One observer felt the guy was texting and speed was estimated at about 25 mph.
Needless to say, we are all feeling very blessed that Dave was not hurt any worse. He'll be sore for quite awhile but we are saying many prayers of thanks tonight.
Dave did have quite a few visitors today and this evening as well as telephone calls. Our friends and family are more blessings in this whole episode.
Please feel free to call him on his cell: 619/540-6650. He'll answer if he can or will call back when possible. My cell is 619/987-6779. I should be at the hospital most of the day tomorrow after attending 8:30 am Mass.
Thanks for letting others know of the accident and I will let you know when he'll be coming home.

First of I would like to thank all of the Knights that helped out with breakfast with Santa and Raddy's children hospital. We had a total of 160 people attend our breakfast a pretty good turn out. Father and i spoke about having the Knights to be ushers at the midnight mass. We will be needing at least 8 knights to help out so if you can help out let me know. The next thing that is coming up is the dinner on the 21 of January. We decided to make pasta and salad with dinner rolls. All we have to do is cook the pasta and sauce and leave it out they have servers to give out the food and they will clean up after the dinner is over.

We need help at all masses this weekend for the Mental Disabilities Drive. If you can help simply be available after mass as parishioners leave to collect money and offer Tootsie Rolls in return. It's fun and only takes about 10 minutes. Four volunteers at each mass should be enough. Collection cans and Tootsie Rolls will be on the front patio.
Don't forget to RSVP for the past Grand Knights dinner on Noverber 6 after mass in the St Marys Room. Attend mass with the Knights prior to dinner if you can. Respond to this email or email Manny Rodriguez at qban762000@yahoo.com or Ross Bouman at rossbouman@yahoo.com. to RSVP. If you couldn't open the flyer in a previous email, a new one in a different format should be emailed soon.
Also mark your calendar for the Nov 8th fundraiser at Long Island Mikes Pizza. It is located across the I-15 at Clmt Mesa and Murphy Cnyn Rd . 20% of all sales goes to the Knights. Look for a flyer soon via email or the church bulletin.

lots of things were talked about tonight regarding future events. But first Taste, as you know it's this weekend and we still need all the help that we can get. If your not able to come at 1:00 pm to help set up that is OK you still can come in the evening and help. We will start tearing down on Sunday at 6:30am. think about what we want to do with the money we make from taste and also the BBQ, do we give all of it to the building fun or do we give a percentage and some to our operating fund that is low? This might be the last year that we will be able to support taste, and maybe BBQ, due to the breaking grounds for the new church. Padres is defiantly out due to hiring union workers. So what i need from everyone is to start brain storming knew ideas for us to start making money for the building. We commit ed to give 25,000 dollars and we have two years to make this money. Our next meeting is SEPT 2 i want to hear your ideas on what we can do,because with us losing those 3 events that is a good hunk of money we are missing out on.

I have requested 20 tickets for taste to sell. They are being sold for 50 dollars till the 15Th of this month after that they go up to 55 dollars. If you purchase tickets, you don't have to pay your annual dues in December. We are also going to make a pulpit announcement after all masses to remind people that this is there last chance to purchase tickets. This is where I need help. I need a volunteer or two to make those presentations after masses this weekend. I can not do it. I will be in Arizona over the weekend. I pretty much suck at it anyway.
If you can help out making the presentation let me know. I can coach you on what to say. It really is not hard. I appreciate all the help so far and again remind you on the night before the event Sat. 7/17) we will be setting up the tents at 6:00 P.M. and the day of the event (7/18) we need all the help we can get. Just a reminder there is a general meeting this Thursday July 1st at 7:30 P.M. at Ascension. It is an important meeting as it is the last general meeting prior to the BBQ on July 18th. Although a BBQ committee has been established there is much needed in the way of help before, during, and after the event. If you are planning on attending the BBQ and have not purchased your tickets, they will be available for purchase at the meeting. We are also looking for donations for raffle prizes. To all barbeque committee members (Dennis J, Rick K, Carl T, Damon M, Gene H, Craig M) and anybody else interested in helping with this years years barbeque (all are welcome):
I have reserved the conference room at Ascension for this Wednesday the 9th at 7:00 P.M to have a kickoff meeting for this years bbq. Because it so closely follows the fiesta we need to hit the ground running now that the fiesta is over. Most important at this time is the menu and per plate pricing so we can determine what we need to charge to make a reasonable profit and still attract interest. Once that is determined we can get a game plan together for publicity and ticket sales, door and raffle prizes, facilities, entertainment and guests, and other matters.
Please plan on attending.

Gentlemen,
I recieved the participants instructions from Kiwanis. The parade is this Saturday May 15th. The staging area is the Serra High School south parking lot (corner of Tierrasanta Blvd and Santo). Parking for participants is in the north parking lot of the school. Enter parking lot from the north. If someone is dropping you off enter the main gate to Serra off Santo from the north and exit back on to Santo and proceed north. Tierrasanta Blvd will be closed off. We are asked to be there at 9:00 A. M. When you arrive check in with a parade marshall and he will instruct you are where we meet . As David said bring some water and sunscreen. If you have a Knights polo shirt and hat wear it .
The parade runs east on Tierrasanta Blvd and south on La Cuenta. It ends at the park by Farb Middle School. Refreshments will be served . From there you must make your own arrangements to get back to your car or get picked up. It's not that long of a walk back to Serra..
I will bring our banner and hopefully members of the 4th degree will join us. I will also have some candy to pass out to the viewers.
This is a fun event and a way to show community spirit as well as promote the Knight's cause. Please make every effort to participate.

Marsha was allowed to come home late Easter Sunday afternoon. She is resting confortably and slowly regaining strength. She should be up and abount withing a couple of weeks. How her pneumonia came on so quickly and severely remains baffling, even to her doctors.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. It's time like these that makes us realize even more what great men, family, and friends you are.
God Bless

Subject: Update on Marsha
Grand Knight David:
As you know and many of the Knights know Marsha suddenly contracted Pnumonia this past week. She is currently at Mercy Hospital in intensive care. The good news is that many of her vital signs have stabilized including her blood pressure which was extremely low. She ate a meal (cream of wheat, yum) this morning for the first time since Monday and it seems to have agreed with her. She still has fluid in and around her lungs and her temperature is slightly elevated. Her transfer out of intensive care and ultimate release from the hospital is unknown.
At this point all her and our family need is to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. She is going to be okay. Visitation in the ICU is very limited and flowers, balloons, etc. are not permitted.
I will keep you and the Knights informed of her progress as time passes.

Fellow Knights,
Chuck Cox's mother died at 11:15 PM, February 19. He was able to visit with her after she received the Annointing of the Sick. There will be a Mass of Celebration of Life on Saturday, February 27 at St. Alphonsus Church. Please remember Chuck's mother and Chuck's faminly in your prayers. Chuck wrote in his email to me that his mother "was a wonderful woman, strong, loving and considerate. I am confident she joins my sister in Heaven as well as many other family members who have passed before."

Fellow Knights,
Linda thanks you so much for the prayers and the wonderful flowers that were delivered yesterday by Dave Timmons. Linda is getting stronger, but she still has a long road ahead to be fully rehabilitated. Our three daughters and I know she is getting better because she is issuring precise instructions for how the pillow is to be placed behind her neck and about the type and quality of meals. And we are happy to comply! We expect Linda to be moved to a rehab facility sometime this week. To follow Linda's story, check out www.caringbridge.org. Enter lindaakers in the find a website box.
Please keep the prayers coming. We felt them in Las Vegas and continue to be comforted by everyone's support.

David Akers

I spoke with David this morning and he said there are some positive signs for Linda's recovery. Linda has numbness in her limbs but not paralysis. She can move her arms and is slowly regaining some strength which apparently is normal for this type of injury. She is in good spirits and is requesting items such as chewing gum.
She is still in intensive care but they are hopeful she will be discharged over the weekend and transported back to San Diego where she will enter a rehabilitation hospital. David and her family remain with her in Las Vegas until then.
Apparently Linda tripped over a floor mat entering the pool area of the hotel and "face planted" on a nearby wall. She has some facial scaring and bruising but nothing permanent .
David asks only for your prayers at this time.

Brothers:
I recieved word today from our Grand Knight, David Akers, that his wife Linda suffered a fall which resulted in a spinal injury. The injury happened in Las Vegas where they were vacationing They are still there. Linda underwent surgery to relieve pressure on her spinal cord and is currently in intensive care. David is with her and their children are flying in as soon as possible. Details are sketchy but it is obviously a serious situation.
I will forward additional information as I recieve it but in the mean time your thoughts and prayers for Linda are requested.
Thank you

Fellow Knights,
The Fish Taco Extravaganza was an unqualified success due to the vision and strong leadership of Rick Kania. Thank you very much for everything you did.
I also want to thank everyone else who worked the event in so many different ways - Luis Alba, Zachary Ahinga, Ron Oliver, Gene Hazen, Manny Rodriguez and his two fine sons, Rodger Blake, Jim Canzoneri and Jennifer and Susan, John Chaison, Chuck Cox, Chuck Rhoades, Dennis James, Jose Madruga, Craig Morey, Mike Ripp, Ray Pantua, Dave Timmons, Ross Bouman, Kevin Freeman, Linda Akers, and Maria the former Marine and fellow parishioner. If I missed someone, please accept my apologies. Everyone's efforts were appreciated.
We received nothing but compliments from everyone who purchased a meal and we made money for our room in the new structure. The only thing that was missing were the Chargers, but that is another story.
Thank you again for all of your efforts.

David Akers

Fellow Knights,
Please remember to attend the February 4 meeting. We will be doing our final planning for the Fish Taco Extravaganza. We need everyone's help with this project - either your talent and time (set-up, cook, serve, and clean-up) or treasure (buy tacos!!). Rick Kania and his committee have worked hard on this project, but this is a group effort. See you at the meeting and on Super Bowl Sunday.

Fellow Knights,
Okay, the Chargers will not be playing, but Council 7902 is still going to be busy this Super Bowl. We are supplying fish tacos to the parish and beyond, if the great beyond gets the word. Starting after the conclusion of the 11 AM Mass on Super Bowl Sunday, February 7, we will have the TV set-up in the St. Mary's room and the kitchen will be cooking tacos, rice, and beans. People will be able to eat tacos and watch the game with us or can get take-out orders.
This is a Council activity and you are a member of this Council. We need you to help prepare the food, tend the bar, be the cashier, and ultimately clean-up. Everyone can find a role to play. If you already have social plans to watch the game, then come by and get a take-out order of fish tacos complete with rice and beans for your other party.
In other words, there is no reason to not participate with either your time or your treasure or both. We look forward to seeing you on Super Bowl Sunday at the best Fish Taco establisment in San Diego.
Fraternally,
David Akers

Greetings:
The Youth Group has a meeting in the St. Mary's room until 1:30 so we might miss a bit of the opening kick-off unless we set-up in the kitchen and are discreet, but the room is open if anyone wants to watch as a group. Food is potluck. See you at the Pancake Breakfast. Family's are welcome.
